Happy Fire Cider Day!!

Today is National Fire Cider day. A day to celebrate folk medicine that has been handed down to us.  Mother Earth gives her medicine to us freely & we should share it freely....
In 2102, Shire City Herbals decided to trademark the name Fire Cider then proceeded to bring lawsuits against herbalists selling this product. This is wrong on so many levels...You can read all about it here at freefirecider.com, hear Rosemary’s story as well as get some more recipes.

I first found out about this recipe from Rosemary Gladstar & her amazing books on Herbalism & all it wonderful healing recipes… Here is her Fire Cider recipe, that she formulated many years ago, in her own words….

I started with Rosemary Gladstar’s recipe but then found this one from Mountain Rose Herbs that i combined it with.... Plus I mix it up once in a while with a few favorites listed at the bottom... :

 Fire Cider
1/2 cup fresh grated organic ginger root
1/2 cup fresh grated organic horseradish root
1 medium organic onion, chopped
10 cloves of organic garlic, crushed or chopped
2 organic jalapeno peppers, chopped
Zest and juice from 1 organic lemon
Several sprigs of fresh organic rosemary or 2 tbsp of dried rosemary leaves
1 tbsp organic turmeric powder
1/4 tsp organic cayenne powder
 organic apple cider vinegar
 raw local honey to taste

Prepare all of your roots, fruits, and herbs and place them in a quart-sized jar. If you've never grated fresh horseradish, be prepared for a powerful sinus opening experience! Use a piece of natural parchment paper under the lid to keep the vinegar from touching the metal, or a plastic lid if you have one. Shake well. Store in a dark, cool place for a month and remember to shake daily.

I also throw in echinacea, thyme, beets, lime peels, peppercorns….whatever your taste is…Have fun playing around with it…. Just take a tablespoon or two a day helps boost your immune system & ward off colds & flu viruses, bronchial congestion ….
I am making a new batch this weekend.. I hope you try this you will love it...
Please share this freely with everyone!!!

Now this is something I've not heard of before - it sounds like it should live up to it's name!

I agree with you in regards to someone stamping and claiming the name for their own- unoriginal folks!
Thanks so much for sharing Linda

I've never heard of this before, very interesting. Nature gives us many herbal medicines for healing, and for that, I'm grateful.

Happy Valentine's Day, my friend.
