Wednesday Women- Sybil Ludington

Sybil Ludington ( tho she spelled it Sebal) was a heroine of the Revolutionary war...She is famous for her midnight ride to warn American soldiers of the approach of the British regulars on the night of April 26, 1777 similar to the one to the  ride of Paul Revere...Except she was only 16 at the time of this event!!

Her ride started at about 9 pm lasting until the dawn riding twice as far as Revere , over 40 miles...from Carmel to Farmer's Mills & back home again soaked for the rain & exhausted....... even defending herself along the way from a  highway man.... She had alerted almost 400 men who were ready to march under her father Col Henry Ludington at dawn
The British attacked Danbury CT on April 27 where supplies for the Continental army were stored... tho The Col & his men were too late to save Danbury, they were able to drive back the British to Long Island sound...
She was congratulated by neighbors & even Gen. George Washington...

In 1961 the statue pictured above was erected in honor of her heroism as well as a stamp in 1975 in the Bicentennial series...Since 1979, there is also a foot race held every year that covers the same route she took..
When you think of what that ride must have been like during that time period... her bravery to undertake it was tremendous...She sure didn't have  any street lights illuminating the way & even tho it was just past the Full Moon it was raining... so much of the ride was darkness  & very dangerous.....
What an amazing young woman...

Boho Interiors...

Hi everyone!!  It has been a busy two weeks...Family get-togethers & projects....Did you ever have times where everything seems  flow in place...that has been that way for the last two weeks for me & I am soaking it in.....projects are getting done or are complete..the Hubby is doing a massive clean-out...never thought I would see it.....things that have been put off or procrastinated on,...done!!  The feeling is so good...The blue cave bedroom is coming along great...I am really loving that color...so does the Hubby...it  only half done & walking in seems to relaxes you immediately...well for both of us it does & that is what is most important...what works for you ... Try as I might tho I cannot seem to keep my projects to one...I have three going right now but I  make sure now that they are being completed....so I can't wait to post the results of everything.... Meanwhile I will be posting  photos that inspire me as well as getting  back to Wednesday Women & Silent Sunday doing these every other week... Enjoy the photos.. Hope everyone is enjoying Spring & the rebirth of everything in Nature....... Love seeing the sprouts poking up through the ground...

Peace...

DIY Friday- Trellis Redo

I got this trellis from one of my GFs... I was not going to keep it but decided that it might work in the Fairy Play-land I am creating for the kids... It was silver & rust...so I gave the scroll work & edges of the butterflies a spray of black paint...

Then I had some fun painting these little butterflies...

It is hard to see but the body & edges have glitter all over them... from all that fairy dust that is left on them after they give the fairies rides around the forest...

It looks pretty neat from a distance ...the scroll work disappears making it look like the butterflies are on the tree....now to get some flowers growing around it...
So if you come across one don't throw it away...even if it is plain you could probably find metal embellishments at a dollar store to attach...then  let your creativity flow...

Have a great weekend....

A Touch of Morocco....

I love the Moroccan look...tho it isn't just Morocco but all across the Middle East...Beautifully handcraft items & furniture....The colors & textures...the patterns & wood carvings... the jewelry & lanterns.... & don't forget the paisley!!...all of it is just gorgeous...It is where I originally got my idea for the Indigo in the bedroom.....One blog I have gotten so much inspiration from  is India pied-à-terre...Definitely check out her site if you love this style of decorating...Lots of DIY projects too....

source
So much of this style can fit into a budget because you can make your own version...
& that is where all those flea markets, yard sales & thrift stores come in...
source
I would love one of these so I am working on a knock-off version for later....
I will recruit the Hubby on this one...

This is why I love the Bohemian look ... it's an inclusive style...especially the Middle Eastern decor.... It is the original Hippie style..
