DIY Friday- Rag Quilt....

These rag quilts are one of the easiest quilts I have ever made.....A great way to do something with a pile of scrap fabric..if you sew, you have scraps....I made this for my granddaughter Lily...the first of many....I am making her a Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt...it was suppose to be a baby quilt but I am making it bigger ..twin size for her first birthday... It is all hand sewn so it takes a bit longer...so I will post that when I finish....

I have seen these on Pinterest & I loved the look....
so I gathered up my scraps, got out the sewing machine...and a few hours later....

The back is solid & covered with Unicorns & Stars...
perfect for my Lily Bean...

There are different patterns on Pinterest...I used the one with flannel as the filling...it is very easy to sew with & through if you want a fluffier fringe...If you have never made a quilt, this is a good one to start with...
Next week I will post the Meditation  table...
The Hubby has jumped in on this project &  I am glad he did...
It is going to look great !!
Have a wonderful Weekend!

New Moon, Black Moon...Moving Forward...

New Moon by Martha Brito
.
Its the New Moon in Aquarius (my moon sign)....it is also a Black Moon being the second New Moon in a month...which also makes it a Super Moon.. AND its the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Horse which coincidentally is my Chinese astrology sign.... Its a perfect storm of power!! I feel so good...energetic...This is going to be a great year...A year of changing & moving forward ...I feel it deep in my soul now ...

Last year was a year of finally letting go of a lot of toxic, negative repressive things...a cumulation of a long journey ....It was hard & at times painful but very good & very cleansing...I realize that letting go is a very personal process...it is not something that is easily explained how you exactly do that........but when it happens, you feel it...I mean really feel it... the Qi energy is good...If you feel stuck with letting go of things...don't give up... it will eventually happen... Set your Boundaries & protect them..  Yoga & Meditation have been an immense help... as well as a great Hubby who loves to communicate & helped me through it...

But when you see good things happen, Priorities are clear,  family becoming closer...a beautiful grandchild being born...new friends coming into your life...even when you lose someone precious to you like a best friend, you eventually see through the tears the beautiful things they instilled in you to move on but never forget.....you know your on the right track...That is my story...

But it is also knowing that
I AM  ENOUGH...

Good bye Pete.....

Pete Seeger has died....
The world has lost a great Musician...Activist ...Humanitarian...
Human being... He is the Father of Folk Music in my humble opinion......

He has left  us a legacy of some of the best music ever...

He is the originator of some of the best Folk songs....
"We Shall Overcome"..."Where have All the Flowers Gone"..."Turn Turn Turn"..

& inspired some of the best folk singers of the 60's.... we are so grateful...
RIP Pete...

Magic....

"And above all watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you, for the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."

DIY Friday- Recycled Wood Ash Bin....

I have had this old ash bin from a wood cookstove hanging around so I decided to dress it up a bit to hold kitchen herbs... Basil, rosemary, sage etc... I dry most of my own herbs but it will be nice to have some fresh during the winter.... I had spotted a photo on Pinterest of a galvanized bin with herbs which I loved..... SO.....

I took some left over flowers from my cupboard project, made some more leaves
&  teeny tiny balls, white string for the spirals...

Then glued on my design.....

After it dried well, on went a coat of gray paint.....I mix black & white craft paint but I do not mix it well ...that way you are painting on differing shades

Then a light coat of stain...
I paint it on the areas I want aged, then wipe it off lightly...
I keep doing this until I like how it looks....

A close up of the details...I also broke a piece of a
flower petal & re-glued it,  just to add an age factor....

Looks pretty with some greenery... I think this will look nice in a window with herbs growing up ....Now to order some seeds from Johnny's...
Next week an  update on my Meditation table...

Have a wonderful weekend everyone...

The Wolf Moon....

This Full Moon is called the Wolf Moon....as well as The Moon after Yule....This is also the smallest one this year...called a Mini-Moon because it is furthest from the Earth...
I love the Full Moon because it is a monthly "housecleaning" of the mind for me...... It is a time to release the things that no longer serve you... Write down anything that you do not want in your life...attitudes, emotions, people, illnesses, habits, thoughts....
go outside & burn it under the light of the Full Moon, give thanks & let go....
Then enjoy a detox bath, maybe some yoga & meditation... Try one of Deepak Chopra's meditations here for free... I love his meditations...

Making a Statement....

I love statement chairs....they are not run of the mill....they say something..... about the owner & their lifestyle.... My favorite is the Wing-back....I have two... one made of Wicker in my Meditation room & this one...
My Dad gave this one to me...He had started to reupholster her but never finished...now I will...Bohemian style... she is beat up a bit from life but still holds her head up...she has seen some travel & will see a bit more......but she is comforting & there when you need her....She wrapped my husband in comfort during his chemo treatments.....
Now it is time for some TLC for her......  a new cushion & face-lift in the front... new cover over the front of the arms...new skirt & back  but I will leave what my Dad had already upholstered......

I have tried for a long time to find out what kind of chair mine is.....She has enormous wings & is big & comfy... You sink into her when you sit... a favorite spot for a nap for my cat Shadow....

I finally was able to identify her over at One Kings's Lane resource center.....My chair comes closest to the styles of the Martha Washington wing-back chair.......

One Kings Lane is a great place to find information about furniture including the history behind it... as well as information on different makes, what style fits you, tips for taking care of chairs, covering them & decorating with them.....  There is also a great article there on incorporating a statement chair into your home ... ...tons of inspiration there.... Be sure to stop by for a visit.....

Here are a few statement chairs I like...

different color on the legs I think.... dark blue...
I love the non-color
but it would have to be away from my pets with their barnyard feet I think...*wink*

Without a doubt, the Peacock Chair is definitely a statement for any Bohemian/Hippie abode...
What is your statement chair?
