The Barred Owl...

We had a visitor today....
Apparently 8 squirrels are enough to attract some attention....
I went out & took pictures &  taking to this pretty guy for awhile...He hung around for about 20 minutes...We were surprised to see him...I am glad the girls were tucked safely away in their home...

He gave me a courtesy look but was too busy
eyeballing the squirrels that were running for cover...
Got to love the rural life....

What a gorgeous visitor! We had a female great horned owl a few years back and she had a nest. We never saw the owlets but we heard the calls between her and her mate. She was so amazingly silent and graceful as she would swoop down to catch beach rats. The rats barely squeaked so, I'm fairly confident that her talons made death rather quick.

Down in Talihina we had owls and I would love to sit outside at night and listen to them, along with the coyotes and everything else. Thank God scorpions don't make a sound or there would have been thundering throughout the hills. :)

Wow! Beautiful! Scary for our lil ones, but simply beautiful to see.

I love owls! Every year I hear one but have yet to make their acquaintance. Must be a generation of families. You're lucky to get a picture!
Love your blog!
