Chicken Chronicles- The Court of the Crimson King

It has been a while since I have done a regular post so it is time to get back to it.....The time off has been good especially since the loss of Lura.....I have been spending time with family & friends, alot of time in Nature...& with the crew here... Since it has been awhile, I thought it was time for a Chicken Chronicle & let you know what my favorite crew is doing...

We have another rooster.....He was in a group that I got in the spring...it took awhile but the name finally came to me today.......the Crimson King...The Hubby approved wholeheartedly......one of his favorite groups...

Life is pretty idyllic here for my little crew.... As I have three different age groups now, I was worried about how they would get along...They seem OK at times but my girls exert their seniority when the mood strikes them....they are 6 yrs old now so they literally rule in this kingdom...
We call the Crimson & his girls the "Wildlings" (yep... as in Game of Thrones) if you could see them you would agree.....
They run, jump & perch everywhere...it is comical to watch them....

The third group is the Babies...We did have one tragedy....I started off with two Barred Cross chicks....then one day a small fluffy white Maltese terrier
got into the pen & murdered one of them ..... the other one escaped to my garden to hide...The poor thing was scared, shaking & heartbroken....We put her in the storage shed...The Hubby put a  secured screen door on for her & she was once again safe....Plus I could keep a better eye on her...We named her Emily.... but she was a lonely little Emily...

Then the Hubby did something so sweet...The next day, he went to the local feed store where we buy our chickens & asked if they had any left....He never said a word to me...he got home & told me to go check on something in the shed....when I got out there I saw two new babies!!! All three were running around happy as ever...the two chicks just stuck like glue to Emily....maybe they think she is their Mamma....All I know is the Hubby was a sweetheart to do this a little chick...
Plus they have a front row seat to the antics of the big chickens...so life goes on here on the hill...

The King holds court....

The Girls enjoy their lunch.....

Food tastes better outside in this beautiful weather...

Then it is time for an afternoon nap to recharge......
Life is good for chickens at the Page Homestead...

The Crimson King says they will return with more Chicken Chronicles adventures...
Enjoy the weekend!!
