DIY Friday - For the Tree

I love making things for the Holiday season.... There is something more heartfelt in doing so...  lets face it so much that you see in stores now that is affordable is of low quality anyway....but when you sit and start crafting things no matter how simple you connect to something comforting ..

So this week I made these Christmas ornaments for my daughter from vintage Silver Christmas balls...

The silver was peeling off so they made good candidates & it would keep that vintage feel...I covered them with pages from a vintage Spanish dictionary....then added German Glass to the top for some glitter....

I love German Glass....a little goes along way.....I tried to get a picture of what it looks like when the light hits it as one of my fellow bloggers had asked me about it......you get the idea but still doesn't capture how beautiful they are under the lights..... it reminds me of  crusty snow when the sun hits it .... like diamonds...

I also dried some oranges for my Folk Art tree....I dried these in a 225 oven for around 2 hours...I kept checking them till they were dried ....

They are pretty with the lights behind them ...
now to add the ribbon hangers...

I  also soaked some cranberries in a bath of lemon juice & salt overnight...then strung them on hemp & hung them in a dark dry closet to dry for a couple weeks...also for the Folk Art tree....
Tomorrow I am making the Wreath  & I am excited do get started as it involves an antique...so I will be posting the results on Sunday....

I hope you are taking the time to make a few things this month...not only is it fun but very relaxing & stress free..

Have a great weekend!!!

Very nice, Linda! I love your attitude of enjoying a stress free holiday. I think handmade gifts are so much more enjoyable for both giver and recipient. Why struggle and stress out at the malls when you can give something lovely that you've made with your own two hands?

Hi Linda~I dried some oranges and was wondering how you put the ribbon on them without the orange slices shattering...Thanks-my kitchen smelled glorious while the oranges were drying.

I used a tapestry needle and very thin ribbon...I also used a very thin hemp string too...I just pushed the needle through very slowly & carefully...I laid the orange slice down on a cutting board to give it some support to get the needle started... I hope that helps...:)
