Start a Vegetable Garden

With the state of the economy and the price of vegetables many people are buying locally or starting their own gardens. If you want to start and do not know where to begin I am posting a link to a couple of links to get you started. You do not have to have alot of land to grow your own. Container Gardens are becoming popular too for growing many vegetables such as tomatoes and green peppers. Where ever you are, add more nutritional value to your diet by growing your own fresh veggies...

Earthship Village Ecologies

This is an amazing project and in light of events happening across the world, we would be well to pay attention to this project. Let's hope the profit-mongering conservatives do not do their utmost to kill this project. It is for the future of our children, for sustainable living in harmony with the Earth by living on less and use of recyclables.
I have posted a couple of excerpts from this article and posted the website. I highly recommend you check this out................

"Throughout the last forty years Earthship Biotecture has been working toward developing a fully sustainable prototype home that has a zero carbon footprint on the planet. We arrived at this in the early 2000’s and are still perfecting and refining it.

We have a building prototype that harvests its own electricity and water; contains and treats its own sewage; and heats and cools itself without fuel and produces a significant amount of food.

The building is built from 45% recycled materials thus starting the construction of the building with a negative carbon footprint. Discarded materials take the place of new materials that require energy to produce. Also, once used, discarded materials, would have taken energy to dispose of. There is no energy required to reuse existing materials. This further contributes to a negative carbon foot print at the birth of the building."

"So the E.V.E. project is about all of these things, power, water, sewage, food, recycled materials and the economy and a way to live that is more like what i would call direct living. I call it direct soft impact living. It puts people in a position that they can relate to the economy as if it were a swimming pool that they can dive into for a swim if they want to, but when they want to get out, their life is out of the swimming pool and remote from it and not dependent on it. Swimming in the economy is a game, it’s a recreation, it should not be the thing between us and life. That is a big part of what the EVE project is all about... evolution beyond economics made possible through a living vessel that provides all of the essentials and has no carbon foot print."

Heidi

This is Heidi. She is now 26 years old.
She was my daughter's horse when she was going through her teens.
She provide love, fun & yes excitement..
She would break out of her pasture every so often and
gallop up and down the road running like the wind..
It wasn't until the grain bucket came out that she would let us catch her..
She had her own row of carrots in the garden
which she sometimes got into....
She is now owned by friends of ours whose daughter rode her in shows.
They have loved and cared for her which makes us happy
knowing how well she has been cared for.
We miss her sweet little face and those large brown blinking eyes.
So I guess we need to go visit..

Cool Recycling for A Greener Earth

This is just one example of some of the great re-purposing project at this site. A must see for the Recycling and Re-Purposing crew.....

Recycled Cardboard Logs

This is a pretty neat idea posted on Design Sponge that could be used for not only the fireplace (when not in use) but would make a nice centerpiece with smaller logs. I also would probably use the Papier Mache recipe instead of plaster just as a non-toxic alternative and I find it much nicer to work with. Another project for my to-do list....

A Re-purposed Room with a View

Everyone should have a room where they can go for inspiration and creating. I have designed my craft room in a way that it is a visual inspiration. I have a closet that has all my beads, tools, paints and findings for creating items.

I wanted a room that reflected things I love and that was aesthetically pleasing. Antiques, pictures of family & friends, artwork from my kids and husband, sunshine, trees and plants outside the window. I still have to finish the floor and re-paint the room but it is one of my favorite rooms...

An old window decorated with grapevine and greenery
and a bird nest found outside.

An old ladder that was my Father-in-Laws
that I use to hang my fabric on, as well as Flea Market items
where they can be seen until an idea on how to display
it pops into my mind.....

A trio of old desk drawers used as wall shelves.
The bench holds my sewing notions and more fabric.
I prefer benches, boxes and baskets to store things
tho I do use some plastic containers which are out of sight.

There will be more pictures posted of what I will be doing in this room
and how I organize my art materials. Hopefully, it will be an inspiration to someone else to
have a room that gets the creativity flowing.

American Quilt

"We are the fabric of America

We are the stitches of Life,

We are the patches of posterity,

The quilt of humanity

The blanket of common strife."

Marian Fisher

A big thanks to my friend, Marian, for letting me post her wonderful words.

I hope this reminds some people that the uniqueness of America is the people....regardless of size, shape, color, religion, ethnicity and lifestyle. We all suffer the same, bleed the same red blood, want a better life for our families and most of us want peace free from war, as well as prosperity and happiness.
