"By the time we got to Woodstock"

42 years ago today, Peace, Love & Music reigned for three days in August of 1969.......

Imagine 500,000 young people coming together in one place......no riots, no violence.....
That in itself is amazing and a testament to what our generation was trying to convey.

So step back in time and think about what was going on in our society then ...and really look at the pictures of Woodstock....because what you will see goes below the surface....

The essence of what could be in society....a peaceful and helpful communing....free from war....celebrating culture.....connecting to the Earth...

A message still endorse by the promoters, Michael Lang, John Roberts and Joel Rosenman, and still applicable for today.

This is their website...

Though I didn't get to the original, my girlfriend Sally and I got to see some of the groups at the 40th Anniversary concert...We had a great time...it was mellow and fun with good friends...

For those who choose to focus on the few problems that arose or indulge in the criticism of hippies and anti- war activists you need to step outside the box for a moment...

if you can.

The rest of you .....Enjoy!!

Aerial views of the concert....

"By the time we got to Woodstock,
we were half a million strong,
and everywhere was song and celebration.."

Michael Lang...one of the guys
who made it happen!!

Some of the amazing performers.....

Somewhere in that crowd
is one of my Best Girlfriends.. Lura..

She said, " I was there!
Yowza... all the mud and rain!
Jimi heaving his guitar at the end of his set!
Absolutely one of the high-lights of my life.
Too bad I can't remember it all, LOL"

She was "blissful"....
and I sure would have been too
:)

"1 2 3.. What are we fighting for? "

I bought a copy of this photo
of my favorite guys from Mr. Levine
at the 40th Anniversary concert.
It is the only picture taken of
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
together at Woodstock.

Melanie wrote the song
"Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)"
about her experience at Woodstock.
There were some acts like Melanie's
which are considered the

"Well I came upon a child of God
he walking along the road
and I asked him tell where are you going
this he told me:
(He) said I am going down to Yasgur's farm
going to join in a rock and roll band
Got to get back to the land
and set my soul free;"

Martin Scorsese ( bottom left)
giving the peace sign to Max Yasgur....

"We are stardust ,we are golden
we are billion year old carbon
and we got to get ourselves back to the garden"

Of course, of all the pictures,
this iconic photo immediately
makes you think of Woodstock ...

These are a few links for those of you who
would like to see more pictures
and find out more about the festival
as well a couple of nostalgic videos
that are pretty cool....

Peace !

Too funny! I did an anniversary post this morning, too! Included some of the same photos, and of course the same song. Love your post!

Happy Anniversary Woodstock! I wish I was there. I was born much too late.
