It is Bohemian Heaven on Earth!!!!

Give Peace a Chance

"The song was written during Lennon’s ‘Bed-In’ honeymoon: when asked by a reporter what he was trying to achieve by staying in bed, Lennon answered spontaneously “All we are saying is give peace a chance”; He sang the song several times during the Bed-In. Finally, on 1 June 1969, in Room 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, André Perry recorded it using a simple setup of four microphones and a four-track tape recorder rented from a local recording studio.[1] The recording session was attended by dozens of journalists and various celebrities, including Timothy Leary, Rabbi Abraham Feinberg, Joseph Schwartz, Allan Rock, Rosemary Woodruff Leary, Petula Clark, Dick Gregory, Allen Ginsberg, Murray the K and Derek Taylor, many of whom are mentioned in the lyrics. Lennon played acoustic guitar and was joined by Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers, also on acoustic guitar. "

Led Zeppelin cover of Kashmir..

My 3$ Cupboard

At one of the local Agway's, they sell antiques at amazing deals...

A few months ago , I saw this little green cupboard but decided not to grab it because I bought this Spinning Wheel instead...
One that I have been searching for a very, VERY long time...years in fact but could never afford the prices
but patience does have its rewards...
My goal is to actually use this to spin wool.

However, my hubby went back and picked up the cupboard for me as a surprise....(then he puts his surprises somewhere in our home, in this case the laundry room, where I will find it which makes it a fun game too....What a Sweetheart he is!!!)

He got it for 3$ ...It was rickety and dirty from neglect after sitting in an old farm attic for years.

But with a little cleaning with some Murphy's Oil Soap as well as some re-nailing and gluing to reinforce it making it ready for the Milk Paint to be applied.

I then applied a coat of Black Milk Paint
and wiped some of it off in areas so that some of the old paint
was visible in some areas....

Then I applied some Antique Crackle Finish
in a few areas..

Next I applied a coat of Lexington Green Milk Paint..
giving it a dark/light effect
Then I applied some homemade Black Bees Wax...(recipe below)
It settles into the cracks created by the crackle paint
and enhances the aged look even more

I try to leave runs here and there too just to add some character to it...

The little cupboard is done and ready for my upstairs bath
to hold towels and washcloths..

This is the recipe I use to make my beeswax.

Bees Wax Recipe:
2 pints Turpentine
1 Pint Linseed Oil
5 -6 ozs Beeswax , Black or Clear

Melt the wax in an old double boiler and
remove from the heat. Add the linseed oil and stir well.
Add the turpentine and stir well. pour into jars and seal.

This would also make a great homemade gift for the craft people in your life.

The French Lilacs are Blooming!!!

I wish I could post their is out of this world :)

Recycled Ironing Board

I needed a macramé board that was small and easy to transport around to work on. I had this small ironing board that I picked up for a couple of dollars at a yard sale a few years ago and was sitting in storage. After trying a couple of small boards on my lap that just didn't work, I spotted it in my storage shed and the light bulb went on!!! My hubby made a couple adjustments with the legs and I covered it with cork to make it easier for stick pins and there you go...

Nothing Says Bohemian like a Beautiful Oriental Rug

Decorating with these gorgeous rugs is a great way to add color and they work in any room...the color and design adds a touch of bohemian to any room you place them no matter what size....

This is where family and friends stay when they visit....
I just need to put down the wood floor which should really off set my Asian rug nicely...
as well as the French cupboard .

Happy Birthday Bob Dylan

Happy Birthday to Bob Dylan...
"master poet, caustic social critic and intrepid, guiding spirit of the counterculture
generation" (Time)

He who wrote the most amazing songs during the 60's...

Still going strong at 70!!!

Times they are a-changing, Maggie's farm, Mr. Tambourine Man,
Don't think twice, It's alright, Like a Rolling Stone, Subterranean Homesick Blues

Just a few of my favorites but the best one is Blowing in the Wind!!

Grammy's Clothes Pin Bag

My Gram's clothes pin bag was a very faded brown and blah looking. So a little dip in some plum dye, some black binding and fabric flowers gave it a nice re-do. I think she would be pleased with it as well as the added flowers, something she loved alot.

A Place for Pallets..

I have a pile of pallets my husband brought home from the transfer station. I keep changing my mind on what to do with them. These are just a few of the ideas that I have come across. Another idea is to use the wood as flooring which I am going to try in a small hallway. If you like the rustic look, this wood is right up your alley. Now to decide......

I would probably use something much stronger
than string to hang the chair with.

Re-purposed pallets are made into a hutch by a local craftsmen right here in Portland, Maine. Check out the other pieces of furniture made of re-claimed wood...
