Dryad Incense

I love incense...so when I find some that I really like I have to spread the word....these sticks are amazing!!  I got the 19" sticks...they burn for over three hours!!!  & the fragrance is absolutely amazing....

Some incense I have burned leaves a heavy smoke in the air...I have had to open a window to disperse some of it....this is light & leave a beautiful scent to the room....
You know Patchouli was a definite  on my list...& I also got Treehugger that is wonderful too...plus she sent me a few sticks of Sandalwood to try.... They come in 11" & 19" in different package size.... I plan on getting  some Ylang Ylang next.... I highly recommend these...they really are nice incense... Just click on the name under her picture at the top & it will take you to her store.... You won't be disappointed...

DIY Friday- ( on Saturday)- Lily's Doll Cradle

This is our granddaughter's doll cradle the Hubby & I made for her...It was a creation of love & we loved every minute of it... We based the design on an antique cradle I saw on Pinterest... The Hubby built it & added the wavy design on the sides which I loved.... Then brought it to me....
I craved four flowers on the sides, headboard & foot-board... Then it was time to paint....
I wanted it to look as though it had been around or years...I added crackle glaze then a couple of coats of home made chalk paint...very easy...just add 1/2 cup baking soda to 1 cup paint.... I added just a bit more baking soda on the second coat to add more texture... its hard to see in these pictures....
I painted the flowers the usual solid colors...BORING!!  so I painted on a few more colors...let it dry then wiped it off gently with a wet rag...it left a real wild look to the flowers that I loved...it looked fantastically aged...so I repeated the process a couple of more times until I was satisfied.... Then I applied some home made beeswax....now on to the sewing...
I made a french mattress out of linen for the cradle...Baby dolls have to be comfortable after all....
The quilt I hand-stitched in 1987  & stored away in my trunk...it was my first doll quilt & I made it specifically with a future granddaughter in mind...so it was really nice to add this piece to the bedding...

another view of the mattress & pillow.....
The pillow & pillow case I made from my crib sheets when I was a baby...(ignore the red tinge on the pillow...that's is my camera acting up)...the sheets were hand-embroidered by my Step Grandmother....I still have some of the sheet left so I am making some bibs & PJs for a couple of baby dolls...
Now I got a Brother's sewing machine for my birthday last year & it has all these amazing stitches on it...so I had to get fancy for the top sheet....some more linen & lavender thread later....
The final result......
Life just doesn't get better than this...I would say it was a hit.... three babies now are resting comfortably in it with their attentive little mother feeding them... We are so blessed to have such a beautiful little girl in our lives...& to be able to pass on these sentimental family items is a real treat....
This is Love.....
Happy weekend everyone!!

Natural Flea Powder...

Its that time of year...fleas ticks...
I hate putting flea medicine on my Yorkie...
so this year I tried this....all natural, easy to make...
This will probably last him all season... a little goes along way but for bigger dogs I would make a double batch...just sprinkle on & rub in against the hair....  So far so good....I was picking at least two or three ticks from him but since I have used this I haven't seen any....  I found the recipe here ...she does a great write-up on the ingredients which explains how each product works...
Natural Flea Powder Recipe
1 Cup Food grade Diatomaceous Earth- buy it here
1/2 cup Neem powder- buy it here
1/2 cup Yarrow Powder- buy it here ..I make my own in the summer....just dry the flower & leaves & process into powder...
20 drops Eucalyptus EO - buy it here
(omit  the EO if you are making this for cats)

Sacred Spaces- Water Element

Being a water sign this is my favorite element along with earth...the Hubby & I have at least three water sites at our home along with being surrounded by wild pond areas......our small frog pond is a favorite site...
Water is feminine & heals, revitalizes, satisfies our thirst, cleanses..... not only us but the Earth.....nothing can survive without it....it is magic....one of the stones associated with water is amethyst which is my favorite crystal... if you need to clear your head or refocus just stand by some water...if possible in its natural environment...

Items that can be part of your sacred space is bowls of water, fountains & shells... add candles & flowers or sage & you have all four of your elements if you have limited space... I have two small areas like this around the house just if I need to stop for a few minutes & recharge....

My favorite thing to do during the New Moon is a bath....you are immersed in the water element....this is one I do with the exception of using lavender EO instead of lemon... enjoy!

Sacred Spaces- Earth Element

The Earth element...grounding & stable  the foundation of all elements...it is feminine...It is Mother....
She has all of the aspects of the other elements....
Earth is where there is wisdom, knowledge, food, medicine & home. Earth is rejuvenation & rebirth as we are seeing with the arrival of Spring...  I think of green when I think of Earth....plants, mosses, forests, trees.... I also think of wood, stones & crystals... all grounding things in our environment....
source
Without Earth we could not live..... because we also are made of all the elements of Earth's DNA...
water- saliva, fire-temperature, earth-bone, air-breath.....
a familial thread...
Placing symbols of Earth in your sacred space reminds us to honor her.... When we honor & protect her, we honor & protect ourselves...  It is self love....what we do is reflected around us...Earth mirrors back who we are...

We just have to pay attention to her... our society is too busy..too many distractions...too much technology....too much of the wrong information....we are destroying our very life foundation.... the weather is unstable.. diseases are rising...the animal kingdom suffers... we are destroying ourselves when we turn a blind eye to the destruction of our connected Home....
Sacred spaces remind us of the Magic that exists....
in Earth & in ourselves... When we light the candle, take in the fragrance of incense, feel the energy coming from the crystal in your hand, focusing on your breath, quieting your mind, or taking a soothing bath....to slow down....
 to commune with Gaia....
Peace....

Sacred Spaces- Air Element

Happy SUPER New Moon everyone...It is a wild & wet one here in Maine...Mother Nature is throwing her hair around & Abeula Luna is giving her a hand... So with all the wind this is a perfect post today...the Air element...
It is associated with the North...winter...wind...sound & fragrance....
There are many different things that you can incorporate as your air element such as feathers.... I have a Smudge fan I made from feathers that my turkey friends left for me after a lunch of sunflower seeds.........

Another air element is incense & sage...... there is a post coming later this week on some amazing incense I found.... I use them both just about every day....I always smudge before my yoga & meditation as well as clear my crystals....
There is something calming about the scent through the air...
& it smells wonderful....
Chimes & bells...(don't you love this one)....music... even flowers all represent air...the movement...the chi energy as it travels invisibly touching our sense of hearing & smell....

I think it is important be aware of what Mother Earth gives us as these are gifts given freely by her so that we can form a connection with our environment......
So I wish you all New Moon Blessings...Time to set my intentions!!

Sacred Spaces- Fire Element

Meditating is a sacred time for me...Bringing in the 4 elements enhances that connection to Mother Nature...
Flames, lightening, & electricity represents Nature's Fire element..... a candle flame brings a softness & warmth to my sacred space as well as a source to focus on while I am meditating....
Fire is active, destructive yet transforming & cleansing... the act of destruction actually releases seeds of regeneration be it in Nature or a ritual....essential in the cycle of Nature...

In Feng Shui, it is a masculine element...it has the qualities of strength yet also of aggression & impatience...if not contained it will consume & destroy everything in its path... & yet can be playful & comforting.... if you have sat around a bonfire you know what I mean...

 Fire stimulates & changes rapidly.....
It dispels the darkness to help guide us on our journey...
My favorite ritual especially during the New Moon is to write my intentions ( seeds) on paper then burn it outside sending in to the Universe to germinate....just another form of planting a garden, only the harvest is your life goals...
No matter what time of day I meditate, my beeswax candles are always lit...

Welcome April!

I am glad April has arrived..... even without alot of snow here in Maine, it was a long winter....March was a sad month for us....We lost our little Molly.....she was 14 & we had many happy years with her but it was still heartbreaking to lose her....She was such a character....We miss her terribly....But I am sure she is chasing a chipmunk somewhere ....her favorite thing to do..
It helped to stay busy.... SO....that means laying wood floors.... We have the Craft room done (ignore the mess I am still organizing) these are some old boards given to us....there was just enough to do this floor... I think we had three small pieces left over.... I decided to leave it as is & just seal it...I like the different shades... Now we are working on the blue bedroom....hopefully that will be done next week sometime....the wood comes from an old building given to us...so the costs are being kept way down...Gotta love recycling!!!
Here is a preview of a new woodworking project in progress....One of three I have going so I will be posting them in the future.... Part of my DIY Friday....

Hope everyone is ready for Spring  I know I am....
Peace!

DIY Tin Can Redo.....

I am posting this a little early...couldn't wait until Friday...so I'll post something else Friday....First of all...75 here today in Maine....I could not believe it...doors & windows are wide open & I love all the fresh air going through the house....I would like to say it will last and who knows maybe it will....
Ok  so I wanted to redo some tins I have to hold things...I like having things handy in my craft room but not have it look like a craft room...so there are lots of boxes baskets & such to hold things... Time to experiment...I came across a recipe for chalk paint so I thought that would be fun to work with...very easy recipe...2/3 cup paint to 1/3 cup baking soda... There are 4 different recipes but I liked this one because of the  texture...
I painted the cans with white chalk paint & let it dry..then with some left over stain...dark walnut.. I sponged it over the top & bottom of the can... I did this with about three times so there were three levels of stain...light to a bit darker at the edges...  after that I took some watered down  green acrylic paint & lightly sponged it over the satin  to give it a mossy look....
Now the fun part...I decoupaged some beige looking tissue paper around the middle with Mod Podge crumpling the paper as I glued it on... Then I took some dried wild plants I had pressed last Fall and glued them on...I gave it a coat of Mod Podge over that...I dabbed a bit of acrylic paint over the flowers just enough to brighten the colors up a bit...  I tired to make a label for the round tin but I did not like it so back to the drawing board on that...
These three tins will have some dried plants added later this summer....These were just an experiment but I am going to make a few more for gift giving...  I love the texture & earthy look which will work in the craft room....
And....
its a great way to recycle those tins!!!

Taking Care of Yourself...

Hello everyone....I have been away TOO long.... I'll chalk it up to the Winter... We have been busy with laying floors...clearing out things...we are hoping to start our move this year...next week we lay another floor down...February was a rough month..I had two Wisdom teeth pulled & one was infected but my Dr thought most of it was gone...but a few days later the infection flared right up & despite the holistic remedies I tried it wasn't going away... so a trip to emergency & then back to the dentist ended with nursing my mouth for two weeks... Not a real pleasant time but I am glad it happened now  not in the summer when we will be busy... So I played on Pinterest ( lots of blog post ideas), put together a family photo album & had some marathons with Game Of Thrones & Home Fires...

But one thing that did happen, solidified how important that I set my boundaries & take care of myself... especially when it comes to health... you cannot allow anyone to make you feel guilty for putting yourself first.......I spent many years, more than I can count, placating others & putting health issues last....I suffered from debilitating migraines & eventually cancer...I believe much of it came from people pleasing behavior...& believe me, most of the time the people could care less about your health....  So.......
I thought I would start March with a reminder post about the importance of taking care of yourself....  Here are my top five.....

 # 1    Say No!!  by saying no you set your boundaries.... & screw guilt....that is coming from others unhappiness....You do not have to buy into it....Will it make you popular.....No.....but your mental physical & spiritual health will  be better.... those that support your decisions will support you....

#2  Take a Detox Bath at least a couple times a month....I follow the Moon cycles...so on the New & Full Moon I have my rituals which include a detox bath...this month I started with Pink Himalayan Rock Salt....they are wonderful....just remember to drink a big glass of water during the bath....
# 3 Meditate....if you can do this outside even better!! Nothing calms & focuses me like meditation.... I am a reactionary person....I recognize that in myself & over the last few years I have been working on that....  I sometimes I find that after a meditation I come to the conclusion that no reaction can also speaks volumes while not condoning bad behavior you can understand where that person may be in their lives..

#4  Exercise....for me its Yoga... I do a specific Mantra while I do my favorite poses... " So Hum "...because it is similar to breathing...very rhythmic...it is a wonderful meditation as well... But above all Yoga is calming for me...life is better even after a few minutes of poses....I had to post this beautiful video....this is my inspiration....

#5 Walk in Nature...every chance you get....I try to get out in the woods every day...Thankfully this winter in Maine has been mild & so the pups & I have been fortunate to walk almost every day...Nothing is more calming to me...

These are just a few things I try to follow...using the Moon cycle to renew the goals & keep me on track....along with a new adventure into an Ayurveda diet which I'll tell you how I do with that later...
And remember....

Peace my friends....
