Happy Fire Cider Day!!

Today is National Fire Cider day. A day to celebrate folk medicine that has been handed down to us.  Mother Earth gives her medicine to us freely & we should share it freely....
In 2102, Shire City Herbals decided to trademark the name Fire Cider then proceeded to bring lawsuits against herbalists selling this product. This is wrong on so many levels...You can read all about it here at freefirecider.com, hear Rosemary’s story as well as get some more recipes.

I first found out about this recipe from Rosemary Gladstar & her amazing books on Herbalism & all it wonderful healing recipes… Here is her Fire Cider recipe, that she formulated many years ago, in her own words….

I started with Rosemary Gladstar’s recipe but then found this one from Mountain Rose Herbs that i combined it with.... Plus I mix it up once in a while with a few favorites listed at the bottom... :

 Fire Cider
1/2 cup fresh grated organic ginger root
1/2 cup fresh grated organic horseradish root
1 medium organic onion, chopped
10 cloves of organic garlic, crushed or chopped
2 organic jalapeno peppers, chopped
Zest and juice from 1 organic lemon
Several sprigs of fresh organic rosemary or 2 tbsp of dried rosemary leaves
1 tbsp organic turmeric powder
1/4 tsp organic cayenne powder
 organic apple cider vinegar
 raw local honey to taste

Prepare all of your roots, fruits, and herbs and place them in a quart-sized jar. If you've never grated fresh horseradish, be prepared for a powerful sinus opening experience! Use a piece of natural parchment paper under the lid to keep the vinegar from touching the metal, or a plastic lid if you have one. Shake well. Store in a dark, cool place for a month and remember to shake daily.

I also throw in echinacea, thyme, beets, lime peels, peppercorns….whatever your taste is…Have fun playing around with it…. Just take a tablespoon or two a day helps boost your immune system & ward off colds & flu viruses, bronchial congestion ….
I am making a new batch this weekend.. I hope you try this you will love it...
Please share this freely with everyone!!!

Springing ahead....

Hello all...

I was recently inspired by Arhaus ( you can visit here)  to share tablescapes focusing on spring...I am sure many of us are looking forward to a new season in a big way...

As I was going through my pinterest boards, I realized how symbolic this was especially for this time in our nation... In looking forward to Mother Nature's time of rebirth ...
She also reminds us of resurgence, awakening, regrowth & restoration...it made me feel hopeful & positive for the future....

So in thinking of a Spring Tablescape I thought of Moss, candles, flowers, & bird-nests...things of Nature... These are a few of my favorites...I really love the moss mushrooms with the bird-nest...that is going to be a must-do to recreate for a get together this spring...
These ideas can be adapted no matter what the size of the table whether its for two or twenty.. Enjoy!

& it wouldn't be complete
without a touch of Bohemian!

Have a great week !

The Mighty Pine

I love Pine..I am fortunate to live in a state where there are so many... That's why we are called the Pine Tree state....I love how it looks... That it stays green year round...how beautiful it looks covered with snow...It is an amazing tree....I lost one of my huge pines this year...I felt like an old friend had died...
Pine is an very powerful medicinal tree... so my favorite salve is Pine Resin.

It great for wounds, splinters, well just about everything!!
It is highly antiseptic with an incredible drawing power...
infections, toxins, it immediately starts destroying bacteria.

So I make pine resin oil all summer....I go to a number of trees & take a bit from those whose sap is running ...I get about 1/3 of a jar of resin in my old pickle jar....
I always thank the tree after...
You want to pick out any sticks or debris as much as possible...it can get messy....then cover the resin with olive oil & cover with cheesecloth ......I infuse it by solar so its sits on my window sill for about 6 weeks..I usually have 2 or 3 jars here & there...I also give it a good stir every few days...

Strain it through cheesecloth & you have this jar of gold...
Time to make the salve....

In a double boiler,
I have an old enamel one I use just for my salves,
melt 1 oz of organic beeswax
8 oz of pine pitch oil
then add 10 drops tea tree oil
add a couple drops of Vit E oil to the jars & fill.
I add the lids & as it cools it seals up.
This makes 2 half pint jars so I usually double & triple the amount when I do them up..
One of the best parts is the beautiful fragrance when you open a jar in the mid winter...It is heavenly!

You can also make pine cleaner..
just add some pine branches in a jar
& cover with vinegar & leave for a couple of
weeks.... It smells wonderful & cleans great....

I also like Pine tea...I drink it 3-4 times a week during the winter...it is very high in Vit A & C....just cut the greenest part of the pine needle into a bowl...the usual recipe is 1 Tbsp to 1 cup but I use 2 : 1 ratio...I like my tea strong...Put the pine & water in a pan & bring to a boil. Then cover the pan & lower it to simmer for 6-7 mins. the needles will fall to the bottom of the pan.

Strain into your favorite mug & add some honey to taste... Highly beneficial & really delicious...

If you have access to pines you won't be disappointed if you try any of these recipes....

"Who leaves the pine-tree, leaves his friend,
Unnerves his strength, invites his end."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Words of Wisdom for 2017....

Welcome to 2017....what this year will bring is yet to be revealed....But what we do with our lives can be your choice.....I no longer do resolutions...I haven't for years...instead I do reaffirmations...to remind myself to protect my boundaries fiercely.....to keep the lessons I have been shown over the years in place  not to dwell on them but remember to trust & listen to my instincts...
Here are a few...
I hope they feel familiar...

Hard to do but worth it...

This is what I do every morning... this is really worth printing out & keeping by your bed to say to yourself before you even get up...

May this be a very positive & uplifting New Year...

Peace

Winter....

We had our first snow fall...or what I call a snowfall...
14-16 inches at the house...
Everything looked beautiful...& clean...

 The bird-feeders were buried...
so they were cleared off first to help out our little friends..
This is the time of year which is harder for animals...
it can bring out our compassion or our disregard...
It has to do with our awareness...
You can see the paths of my little porcupine friend who comes at night for his supper...he is like a small snowplow....its pretty amazing the snow he can go through....his meal got buried last night so he got extra goodies tonight...

The spider web of branches on the Camperdown Elm are more pronounced against the Winter whiteness...
One of my favorites trees...
The garden trellis looks fairy-like with
its coat of powder...
I feel so grateful that I can look out every morning on a kitchen garden year round... Right there at the top of my Gratitude list...
I know that my herbs & flowers are sleeping under neath....this extra blanket of protection & insulation is welcome.... .
Mamma Earth is resting...

But Mother Nature is doing her dance...
Happy weekend everyone!!

The Winter Solstice....

It is nice to look forward to this Solstice...the last couple of months have created a pall of despair of this nation... Focusing on the return of the light is refreshing ... uplifting...& hopeful... & we really could use some hope...

I found this today & wanted to share it...I love how this was written... soul writing.... I wish I could write like this.....but I am so glad others can for us to enjoy... The more I read this the more profound it became...I hope you enjoy this as well...

" For the light has gone its final day, bringing solitude on mothers earths terrain. Seasons passed with cycled intention, reflecting on this years established direction. For where we head is of our own, no guiding posts, no paths be shown. The solar candles wick now relit, for we are the ones who shall create the new in bliss. Speak your truth and live your resonance, for each a role in whole. Natural balance and called. Unraveling divine so gracious in mind, each day an experience & growth aligned. Enjoy these walkings, these presents, these temporal impermanence- & be as the light in flow, never a moment so still."

                                     The Deep Forest

Time to light a candle & meditate....
Have a Blessed Winter Solstice!

The Sense In It All....

Did you know it is the unofficial anthem of Thanksgiving...

I love this song but the story behind it took on a whole new meaning especially for this year... This 18 minute rendition tells the story of how Arlo help Alice clean up an old church that had been converted after the feast on Thanksgiving back in 1965...

...So Arlo & a friend loaded up a VW bus with scrap & garbage & off they went to the dump...

which was closed because it was Thanksgiving... So they ended up dumping it on some private property....which they ended up arrested for....

so now Arlo has a litter bug record.... Arlo shows up to the draft center as required & is told because of his litterbug record he is "morally unfit " to serve in the military.... really!!!
Hence Alice's Restaurant in born not long after.....Arlo explained in a interview that it was "not a anti-protest song but an anti-stupid song"... because it made no sense what the draft officials said...

So in a time when common sense seems to have left the building & the future has been made very uncertain, I thought this song made perfect sense...

As the aromas of the holiday fill my home, I intend to enjoy my family & good food ...& I will stay in the present today...

with a touch of nostalgia..."wink"

Super Luna

source
Time for a full Moon post...I haven't posted one of these in a while... & this one is special....A SuperMoon in Taurus ( my daughter's sign) with the Sun in Scorpio ( my sign) very powerful time indeed  "wink"......!!  you can read more here ..
I am sitting watching it right now...it is a gorgeous moon tho technically it is at the fullest tomorrow morning...It has not been this close to the Earth since 1948 & will not be this close again until 2034...so if you get a chance get out to view her, do so...

This is the time for releasing...I love the Full & New Moon times...I can step away from the chaos of the world... a mini retreat of quiet ...this is a beautiful way of taking care of yourself...I like to do something special on the three days of a Full Moon.... burning pine resin, charging my crystals, taking a moon bath with Himalayan Salt with LOTS of candle light, lots of meditation & yoga..one of my must-dos is the Full Moon Release:

I also have added some things to these rituals over time that I have come across from others...
Making a Sacred Space spray of moon infused water with crystals...I use a direct method of placing moonstone & amethyst in the water letting it sit in the moonlight overnight, outside of not really cold,  then with adding the essential oils after..  Lavender is my favorite...   if you are making moon water to drink, do not place the crystals in the water as many can be toxic...use the indirect method with a barrier...

I don't know about you but when things go off kilter during the month these sacred times can bring  a center for a more positive outlook that can get pushed back during times of stress...especially now ...so I take it as a sign that this special Supermoon comes at the end of such a tragic week to give us a sense of hope & to NEVER give up..
...so on that note...
Many Supermoon Blessings to you !
